For the initial 2 weeks, I will be wearing fake nails to allow my actual nails to grow out. Once this is complete, I will invite people on Facebook and so on to support my commitment. I will post a picture every Saturday. My plan is: (1) I will use cuticle oil daily, and every time I want to "stim" I will replace the behaviour with fidding with blu-tack or a certain fiddling bracelet I use. (2) I will use nail strengthener every 3 days; along with a brightly-coloured nail polish which will make picking obvious. (3) I will find someone else who is on the same journey, and I will pressure myself by using my success to inspire them - I will document each phase of the journey so that it can be a helpful tool for others, as there will be many times where I will use psychological tools to get through this. (4) Speaking of this - I will use mindfulness to become aware of the antecedents of the picking behaviour, and seek to minimize these where possible. Becoming calmer, less stressed, and more mindful will reduce instances of picking, based on past experience. |
